Manitoba Hydro has requested an interim hydro rate increase of 5% as of Jan. 1, 2022 to the Public Utilities Board (PUB). An increase of this size will have a huge impact on already massive hydro bills for northern customers living in hydro impacted areas. The Interchurch Council presented at the PUB on December 1 to bring this concern to the panel’s attention, proposing that Manitoba Hydro “devise a customer class or an alternative solution” for customers living in hydro impacted areas to protect them from these impossible bills.
